Your voice. Our future.
I was at Ferry Point Park with families celebrating Easter — kids running, parents smiling, a real sense of community.
I asked people about a concern we have all expressed:
If a casino is built right across the street from Ferry Point Park, do we still get moments like this to enjoy family time? Each and every one of our neighbors said NO. A casino in Throggs Neck is detrimental to our environment and our residents. Many confirmed we voted against the casino and all said our community does not benefit in any way from having a casino at Trump Links now known as Bally Links. We were fortunate to have City Council woman Kristy Marmorato who voted with and for her constituents. She represented us well.
At this same time, Governor Hochul is proposing changes to SEQRA through the state budget that could allow developments to move forward with less environmental review. We all know the golf course had to be sealed due to the contaminants that exist from many years of the land being a dump site. 9/11 contaminants also were brought to the now golf course. We were told we would have a golf course for over 50 years. Then Donald Trump made it a reality. The golf course cost over $230 million dollars to build and $54.6 million for surrounding parkland. Bally’s paid $60 million in September 2023 to take over the lease at Trump Links and if they received a gaming license offered a conditional payment of $115 million. Resulting in $175 million for the Governor.
Governor Hochul’s “Let them Build" legislation is a key effort to amend the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). These changes seek to expedite housing and infrastructure construction by reducing regulatory red tape and providing exemptions for specific projects, including housing on previously disturbed land. This one statement will include “Bally’s Links”. They have a club house built on the land.
This budget proposal by Governor Hochul must not pass! This fight to protect our environment is not over!
I believe in building — but I also believe in protecting what makes our communities worth living in.
We need smart development, not rushed decisions that take away from our neighborhoods.
I’m running for New York State Assembly of the 82nd District to make sure your voice is part of that process.”
